tennis on a deserted island
Today the Women's Professional Tennis Association year-end tournament begins here in Doha. The top eight singles players in the world are here to slug it out for $4.5 million in prize money. I have near court-side seats for the entire thing, but I would have also enjoyed seeing this little warm-up volley between two of the players. This picture was taken yesterday at Palm Tree Island out in Doha Bay. You can't tell from the photo, but the island is really tiny. And, ironically, has no palm trees. And it's normally completely off-limits to visitors. But some clever PR person thought it would be fun to build a temporary tennis court out there and stage a photo opp. It was a brilliant idea. I saw it all on CNN International this morning.
